Each TRICK must be demonstrated three times, for FRESHERS and BEGINNERS tricks may be re-cued if necessary but no more than 3 times, BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD, PLATINUM and CHAMPION level tricks must be on a single cue, TRICKS must be consistent in quality.
Apart from FRESHERS and BEGINNERS, each trick should be on cue, your cue may be visual (hand signal) and/or verbal.
ALL TRICKS should be trained FORCE FREE ... that means NO aversives or compulsion based methods ... NO causing pain in any way ... NO physical manipulation ... NO choke chains (slip leads are allowed if used appropriately) ... NO fear based methods ... NO crowding/pressuring your dog (including shouting/angry voice, inappropriate eye-contact, getting too close to your dog or blocking them in) ... NO shock/prong collars.
Puppies must at least 12 weeks old, certain tricks are not suitable for young dogs that are still growing and developing, it is up to you to ensure your young dog’s well-being and safety at all times. If there is a trick your young dog is unable to do please discuss and we will try and come up with an alternative ... never try and be in a hurry to teach your young dog inappropriate tricks just because you are not patient enough to wait until the right time, your dog’s joints wont thank you!
PLEASE make sure all the TRICKS you choose are suitable/appropriate for your dog’s capabilities, it is up to you to ensure your dog’s well-being and safety at all times ... never teach a TRICK just because it looks impressive!
LEADS ... FRESHERS and BEGINNER levels can be done on lead BUT the lead must not be used to manipulate/pull your dog into position.
BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD, PLATINUM and CHAMPION tricks MUST be done off lead.
Praise and encouragement can be given at any time – the more the better!
Treats/toys etc. may be used as rewards (in fact I insist on it!), for FRESHERS and BEGINNERS you may use rewards to lure during training and in the final trick but for all other titles, rewards should be AFTER the trick is performed.
The dog must be handled by only one person during each trick, the title is awarded to handler and dog, so the same handler must perform the tricks with the same dog in every trick for that title
